Patron Initiated Inter-library Loan
Patrons may now place direct requests for materials not held by the HAPL from another Michigan library through MeLCat. This service is free and easy to access from home, school, or business.
Patrons who reside in the HAPL service area (City of Hart, Hart Township, Weare Township, Crystal Township, Elbridge Township and Golden Township) are eligible to place an online request if the materials are to be delivered to the HAPL.
MeLCat is for patrons in good standing who do not have any blocks on their accounts.
Just follow these easy steps:
Step 1
Please search the HAPL catalog first, if the item is not found please search MeLCat by clicking on the link on our home page or the MeLCat button from our catalog toolbar.
Step 2
Please note that you may choose the type of search you want by clicking the button next to—Keyword, Author, Title or Series.
Type in the search words and click the “Find It” button. A results page will open and you have a chance to choose the record that best fits your request. Click on the linked title to learn more about the availability of the title.
Step 3
Once you find one that is available click on the “Get this for me!” link. This opens the request process window.
Step 4
Choose Hart Area Public Library from the drop down menu list. Click the “Submit above Information” button.
Step 5
Enter your name as it appears on your HAPL registration (last name first) and your library card number. Please contact the HAPL if you have any questions about your username and password.
Step 6
If your request has been submitted successfully, the message “Your request has been submitted” will display. You will be notified when the item is available for pick up at the HAPL. If you have any problems please contact a member of the HAPL staff.
Loan Status
MeL also makes it easy for you to check the status on your loan or to cancel a request. Just go to the MeLCat catalog and click on the MyMeL link at the top of the page.
Login using your name and library card number. Clicking on the “Submit” button brings up the list of items you have on your MeLCat account including items checked out, items requested, and items in transit. You may also cancel a request at this screen.
For security and privacy issues, please always remember to logout when you have finished reviewing your account.
